Land is a precious in Bantry Bay. Gabion retaining was discussed as a way to create terraced levels to maximise space. Co-creators mooted the idea that the house to be demolished be used to fill the gabion baskets on the site. In this way we prevented the need for 70 truckloads of rubble removal and gabion stone supply. Excavated site stone was used to “face” the gabions rendering a natural look. Architect Antonio  Zaninovic designed a beautiful house carefully juxtaposed for views and the enjoyment of the enormous existing ficus tree. We built stone cobble and sleeper stairs to access the bottom 0f the site. Birds abound in the indigenous trees lining this area. A large coral tree was craned over the house and installed in a custom designed planter on the pool deck. Coral trees are planted on the graves of Zulu royalty.
